Real Life Skills for Young Makers!

Currently Enrolling: Summer Camp 2026

Bringing shop class back! Urban Workshop’s Youth Program gives kids a fun, hands-on way to learn real-world skills using both traditional and modern power tools. Perfect for homeschoolers or extracurricular enrichment. This program blends STEM concepts and industrial arts while letting students build projects they can proudly take home. Sessions are offered year-round. All students start with Level 1 and build on their skills throughout Levels 2-4.

**Please note: This is a 1-week commitment, no make up sessions offered. Each camp meets Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.

Step 2: When enrolling online, be sure to create a Mindbody profile using the student’s information. Each student must have their own individual account.

Cost: $900 per student. Includes the cost of materials and tools. Call to use charter funds.

Level 1 Overview

Students are introduced to hands-on projects in mechanics, design, fabrication, textiles, electronics, and woodworking. Students learn to safely use hand tools, digital design software, and basic electronics while building projects such as BMX bikes, custom shirts, a light-up marquee star, a toolbox, and a race car. The program develops foundational maker skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities that prepare students for the more advanced tools and projects in Levels 2–4.

LEVEL 2 SCHEDULE:

Level 2 Overview

Level 2 builds on foundational skills by introducing students to power tools, machine operation, welding, jewelry making, 3D design, electronics, and manufacturing processes. Students complete hands-on projects including rebuilding a 4-cycle engine, creating a soldered copper necklace, welding a custom nametag, building an LED sign, crafting a wooden keepsake box, and designing, molding, casting, and packaging their own toy. The program develops technical skills, creative thinking, and confidence with more advanced tools and fabrication techniques, preparing students for the increasingly complex projects and equipment introduced in Levels 3–4.

LEVEL 3 SCHEDULE:

Level 3 Overview

Level 3 covers the following hands-on skills: Woodshop: Intermediate, Advanced Sheet Metal Fabrication: Sheet Metal Tool Box, Metal Power Tools, Advanced Welding: Welded Metal Sculpture (Cube Knot), Reverse Engineering Techniques, Arduino: Intro to Robotics, Advanced CAD Skills, AND THE EXTREMELY POPULAR: Make Your Own Vintage-Style Hardwood Skateboard

LEVEL 4 SCHEDULE:

Level 4 Overview

Level 4 covers the following hands-on skills: Leather Working: Speaker Handle, Woodshop: Advanced Staining, Woodshop: Finishing Techniques, Electronics: Advanced Wiring, Advanced MIG Welding, Work Holding Techniques, Welding Fabrication, and Grinding Techniques.

All skills covered are applied to two main projects: Bluetooth Speaker and Welded Wall-E Metal Sculpture
