Front Desk Team Member
Location: Costa Mesa, CA
DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a bright, detail-oriented, people person with excellent customer service and sales skills to join our team as a part-time Front Office Team Member. Our front office team members are Urban Workshop’s “experience catalysts”, whose top priority is ensuring our members have the information and support they need to make the most of their experience. Team members report to the Assistant Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure every member’s experience is enjoyable going “above & beyond” with every interaction.
- Positively resolve customer requests promptly while exceeding expectations
- Achieve deep knowledge of all our offerings to be able to: give thoughtful and engaging tours, make service recommendations, resolve customer issues.
- Learn and implement the C.L.O.S.E.R. sales system for makerspaces.
- Member management system knowledge at store level to add members, resolve account issues, verify contracts and sales, perform audits, and print ID Badges.
- Maintain retail center and office inventory thru thoughtful purchasing and receiving
- Schedule members and guests for classes and equipment reservations.
- Provide walk-in guests with tours of the facility.
- Participate in daily office & kitchen supply replenishment and office cleaning for our members.
- Prepare class documents and materials for instructors.
- Prepare special event materials.
- Point of sale activities and cash handling.
- Assist the management team, as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
- Exceptional customer service skills, including a professional, yet friendly, demeanor at all times.
- Minimum 1 year customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Retail sales experience, including cash handling and stock replenishment.
- Office experience, including data entry, reception duties, and Microsoft Office products.
- Appointment or reservation scheduling.
- Ability to multi-task on demand.

Shop Maintenance Technician
Location: Costa Mesa, CA
DESCRIPTION
Urban Workshop is America’s most successful membership-based Workshop / MakerSpace providing commercial tools and expert training for ambitious people wanting to learn new skills and contribute to our local community. The right candidate will possess the experience, technical knowledge and initiative to become a well-versed maintenance technician, able to accurately diagnose and repair various types of equipment and systems. Our Facility Maintenance Techniians have the opportunity to take Urban Workshop training classes to learn about the equipment and services we provide to customers and develop their personal skill set.
MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
- Performing preventative maintenance and repair on a range of equipment from CNC machines to Lasers
- Troubleshoot, identify, and repair equipment failures quickly and accurately
- Setup, adjust, and operate all of our manufacturing equipment
- Performing general facilities maintenance, organization, and cleaning
- Maintain spare parts and check out tools inventory
- Completion of Work Orders, shift checklists, end of Shift reports, and shift change procedures
- Works with minimum supervision and improves procedures and documentation
REQUIREMENTS
- Relevant industry, job, or hobbyist experience
- Fantastic customer service skills and a desire to work closely with people
- Intermediate computer skills: proficiency with the Internet, email, Google Apps, Word, and Excel
- Ability to quickly learn the use of new tools, machines, and software
- Ability to effectively communicate shop and member issues
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized shop with fanatical attention to detail

Adult Class Instructor
Location: Costa Mesa, Ca
DESCRIPTION
Urban Workshop is looking for passionate and outgoing personalities that are eager to teach, energetic, motivated to learn, and are dedicated to continuous improvement. Our instructors teach basic use, and the application of industrial machinery in a wide variety of specialties, as well as safety, etiquette, and responsibility. This is your opportunity to share your expertise with others that are eager to learn and thirsty for more. You will get immediate feedback from students that are thrilled to be taking the best shop classes available with you.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, good interpersonal skills, and work well with many different kinds of students. S/he must be available during some weekday days and have a flexible schedule. Teaching hours will range from 12 – 20 hours per month. Instructors must be experts in the topic they wish to teach and be able to show product examples and/or credentials.
- Must have extensive working knowledge of the subject they wish to teach
- Must be cool, enthusiastic, and the type of person who enjoys other people
- Inspire and encourage students
- Teach / demonstrate shop rules, etiquette, clean up / organization, check out procedures
- Must present a professional image, be courteous and organized, and reliable

- Manage class paperwork (student / teacher evaluations, student pass / fail)
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Start each class fully prepared and on time with fantastic energy
- End class once each student has achieved success then clean up and store materials with consideration to the next class and teacher.
- Teach class content as directed but always be looking for ways to improve it
- Teach and demonstrate Urban Workshop safety rules, policies, and etiquette
- Inspire and encourage Urban Workshop members, students, and each other
- Promote Urban Workshop special offers and up sells at the end of class

Youth Program Instructor
Location: Costa Mesa, CA
DESCRIPTION
If you love hands-on making, have solid shop skills, and prior experience teaching or mentoring youth, we need your help as a full- or part-time instructor. Formal teaching credentials are not required; however, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn new tools and techniques, and a strong desire to positively impact the youth of tomorrow are essential.
We provide comprehensive training across all areas of the program to ensure instructors are fully prepared to support students effectively. This position reports to the Youth Program Manager.
Our youth program uses a highly developed, proprietary curriculum that is well structured and fully supported. Instructors are expected to prepare for their individual classes using materials and tools from our onsite inventory, actively engage with students during sessions, and assist with cleanup and restocking after class.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Start each class fully prepared and on time with amazing energy and enthusiasm
- Teach class content as directed but always be looking for ways to improve it
- Teach and demonstrate makerspace safety rules, policies, and etiquette
- Inspire and encourage makerspace members, students, and each other
- Inform shop or management team of any equipment, materials, or documentation issues
- Promote our special offers and up sells at the end of class
REQUIREMENTS
- Shop and/or maker experience with tools and electronics
- Available weekday days, some weekend days, and have a flexible schedule.
- Able to commit to complete calendar year schedule
- Pass Live-scan background check
- Must be cool, enthusiastic, and the type of person who enjoys other people
- Able to remain confident/calm with groups of students using large power tools
- Mechanically inclined with good shop and computer skills
- Must present a professional image, be courteous and organized, and reliable
- Manage class paperwork (student / teacher evaluations, attendance, student pass / fail)
- Good communication skills with parents and families
- Able to think on the fly when a project goes wrong, tool breaks, or part is missing
