PRO101 Laminated Skateboard Deck Construction

Let’s build some skateboard decks! Learn to glue and vacuum press a curved plywood blank, cut the outside profile, radius the edges, and drill holes to attach trucks. Grip tape application and trimming will also be covered. Background information regarding various board types is also included in the class packet.

PRO102 End Grain Board Construction

Learn to build an end-grain board.You will prepare, process, and glue a hardwood, end-grain board using manual machines in the wood shop. General glue-up and clamping methods will also be introduced along with surface finishing and wood protection.

PRO103 Vintage Skateboard Deck Construction

Use basic and powered shop tools to make a hardwood cruiser skateboard deck. Students will cut and prepare all materials and perform glue up of the skate deck. Once the glue up has set, you will complete the shaping and finishing  prior to assembly. Finally install trucks, bearings, and wheels so you can ride your new board home!

PRO104 Bluetooth Speaker Box Construction

This project class brings together multiple disciplines into one large project. This class requires students to design the speaker enclosure to fit the components provided, manufacture the enclosure using wood shop tools and the laser etcher, assemble and install the electronics, complete the enclosure, and then make and attach a leather carrying handle. When your done you can connect to your phone and jam while you work on your next project.

PRO105 Electric Guitar Workshop

Build a Stratocaster style electric guitar using kit components. There is plenty of room for customization. You will shape the guitar body and finish it, design and make the head, and paint / finish in your own design. When complete you will have your own hand made electric guitar to jam with!

PRO106A, B, & C Surfboard Design and Construction

SURF’S UP DUDE! Learn to build a complete surfboard from scratch using Urban Workshop’s Laguna Tools CNC Router! Topics covered in this multi-part class include: Board geometry variables, design in BoardCad®, creating tool paths for the CNC Router, foam-stringer glue-up, CNC machining, foam sanding techniques, fin box creation, and glassing techniques from base coat through to polish coat.
Class 1 will cover the design aspects in both Autodesk Fusion360 and BoardCad, board geometry, and creating toolpaths.
Classes 2 & 3 will cover glue-up, CNC Routing of the board blank, finish sanding the foam, and fin box creation, and setup of custom graphics for your board!
Classes 3 thru 8 cover start-to-finish glassing techniques, hands-on glassing, hot coating and final polishing.

Participants are required to bring a laptop with both Autodesk Fusion360 and BoardCad pre-installed. Both software packages are free to download and are available for both Windows and Apple Operating Systems. Download these programs by following these links:

PRO107 Stained Glass: Tools and Techniques

This class will introduce students to the basics of creating and cutting patterns, scoring and breaking glass, glass grinding, foiling, soldering and patina for stained glass art pieces using the copper foil technique. To gain experience, students will make their own stained glass sun catcher to take home.

PRO109 Advanced Wax Candle Making

Learn more advanced techniques in the world of wax candle making! After learning how to prepare your candle mold by cutting glass bottles on a tile saw, sanding the edges smooth with a Dremel tool and filling with wax, take this class to futher your knowledge into the endless possibilities of candle making. Types of wax, candle types, molding requirements, wax shrinkage, fragrances, and mold types will be discussed. When you are done, you will have a cool new candle to burn on your mantle.

PRO110A&B Marquee Star Project

This is a multi discipline class that will teach you several valuable skills within 2 sessions including sheet metal, spot welding, painting and finishing, and DC electronic circuits and soldering. In part A you will learn about sheet metal fabrication techniques including material prep, work-holding, joining material using a spot welder, and finishing techniques such as spray painting or hydro dipping. In part B, you will learn about DC electronic circuits and the tools necessary to make them work. You will learn to cut and strip wires and connect them to LED’s, a battery source, and a switch using electronic soldering techniques. All of these processes combined will create a fully functional light up marquee star!
