This hands-on course prepares welders for AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code certification, the industry standard for welding structural carbon and low-alloy steels. Combining classroom instruction with guided shop practice, students learn code requirements, test plate prep, and perform FCAW-G groove and fillet welds in all positions on material up to 1” thick—training them for the unlimited test.

This hands-on course prepares welders for AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel qualification, focusing on Self-Shielded Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW-S), commonly used in field and structural applications. It combines code-based instruction with practical training on 3G and 4G welds using carbon steel plate. Key topics include wire selection, polarity, travel speed, temperature control, and defect prevention. Students will also learn to interpret code criteria, prepare test plates, and perform welds for visual and mechanical testing.
