“Blueprint Reading for Welders” is a comprehensive, hands-on training course designed to teach welders and fabricators how to confidently interpret and apply welding blueprints, shop drawings, and technical schematics used in modern manufacturing, fabrication, and construction industries.
Led by an experienced AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and welding educator, this course emphasizes real-world application of blueprint interpretation, welding symbols, material callouts, joint designs, dimensions, and tolerances. Students will learn how to read and extract critical information from 2D and 3D drawings, ensuring accurate fit-up, fabrication, and code-compliant welds.
This course includes both classroom instruction and hands-on activities using actual shop prints, mockups, and fabrication layouts, preparing welders to work effectively in team environments with engineers, fitters, inspectors, and project managers.
Application: This class provides required skills for a welder in any industry. Most employers will not consider a welder who has not been trained in blueprint reading or welding symbols.

This focused and in-depth training course is designed to prepare welders for the written portion of the LADBS Los Angeles City Welder Certification Test—a mandatory qualification for welders working on structural steel projects within the City of Los Angeles.
Taught by an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and experienced welding instructor, this course delivers targeted instruction on the welding theory, safety practices, and code knowledge required to pass the written exam administered by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Students will be guided through practice exams, code interpretation, and real-world applications aligned with the current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel, which forms the basis for the LA City exam. Students will receive a copy of the AWS D1.1 Code book to keep.
This prep course is ideal for welders who already have hands-on experience and are seeking to earn or renew their LA City welding license by successfully completing the closed-book written test.
Application: This certification is required for any structural welder wishing to work with the Los Angeles city limits.
