This hands-on course prepares welders for AWS D1.1 certification using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process, widely used in structural steel work. Through classroom instruction and lab practice, students learn to weld groove and fillet joints in 3G and 4G positions. The course emphasizes electrode selection, heat control, defect prevention, and D1.1 testing standards, including visual inspection and bend testing.
Application: Structural Welder (SMAW), Field Structural Welder, Ironworker Welder, Bridge Construction Welder, Steel Erection Welder, Industrial Maintenance Welder, Welding Technician – Infrastructure Projects, and more!
Course Duration: 44 hours, (11) 4-hour Sessions
Prerequisite: AWS401 or experience
Price: $5,999
This hands-on course prepares welders for AWS D1.3 certification using the SMAW process on thin-gauge sheet steel (3/16″ and under), common in light structural applications. Students focus on precision techniques, heat control, and welds in 1F, 2F, and 3F positions using appropriate electrodes. The course also covers joint prep, visual inspection, and AWS D1.3 acceptance standards to prepare for performance qualification testing.
Application: Sheet Metal Welder – SMAW, Light-Gauge Structural Welder, Framing and Bracing Welder, Prefabricated Building Welder, Enclosure and Panel Welder, and more!
Course Duration: 44 hours, (11) 4-hour Sessions
Prerequisite: AWS401 or experience
Price: $5,999
Pre-Pipe is a training course that builds essential skills for welding 6-inch carbon steel pipe using the SMAW process, preparing students for the ASME Section IX performance qualification (test not included). The course bridges plate and pipe welding, with practice in 6G position using E6010 and E7018 electrodes. Students also learn to read WPSs, understand ASME code requirements, and apply proper fit-up, heat control, and defect prevention techniques. NO test included with this course.
Application: This course is for individuals who have some stick welding experience and wish to get additional training prior to taking ASME Section 9 pipe using SMAW.
Course Duration: 40 hours, (10) 4-hour sessions. NO test included with this course.
Price: $5,499
This hands-on course trains welders to weld 6-inch carbon steel pipe using SMAW and prepares them for the ASME Section IX Welder Performance Qualification Test, widely used in pressure vessel and piping industries. Students learn the full pipe welding process with E6010 and E7018 electrodes in the 6G position, along with WPS interpretation, test assembly prep, and code-compliant weld standards. Focus areas include arc control, heat management, joint fit-up, and defect prevention.
Application: Boilermaker Welder, Pressure Vessel Welder, Nuclear Pipe Welder, Power Plant Maintenance Welder, Refinery Field Welder, and more!
Course Duration: 80 hours, (20) 4-hour sessions
Prerequisite: AWS401, AWS 4PP, or pipe experience
Price: $10,499
