Urban Workshop’s STEM Program is designed to create a relaxed and pressure-free environment in which students, ages 10 to 16, learn to use a wide selection of hand and power tools with a variety of materials. Each individual class introduces participants to a new group of tools and techniques, and includes a project.

The goal of this program is to help build confidence and independence by teaching your child practical skills, as well as provide career exploration opportunities that will benefit them for a lifetime, as they experience firsthand engineering and technical problem solving using both traditional and high-end equipment to achieve a solution. Our 12 week programs are offered twice a year; spring and fall. Participants in the program will learn to use current state of the art tools and equipment.

Beginner, intermediate and advanced classes start the week of January 22, 2018; click the links below to be taken to our enrollment page:

THE FINE PRINT

All students start at Level 1 and progress to the next level upon successful completion of each level. Starting with Level 1, students learn how to use basic hand tools, and help develop the “feel” needed to successfully work with different materials and mechanical systems. This understanding provides a solid foundation for levels 2–4, where increasingly more powerful tools will be introduced, along with more complicated projects.

Prerequisite(s): Level 1: None! Levels 2 through 4 require completion of the previous level.
Minimum number of kids to make a class: 8, Maximum number of kids per class: 16
Safety: Closed-toed shoes, long pants and shirts that cover the shoulders are mandatory.
Cost: $800 per student. Includes project materials and the use of Urban Workshop’s tools. We are an approved vendor with the Charter Schools listed on our website and your Charter School funds can be used to offset the cost of the program.
