TRK103 Laser Etching Course
The laser etchers are hands-down the most popular machines at Urban Workshop and responsible for more small businesses than any other area in the shop. Come join the fun and learn how to make amazing gifts and products you can sell to make real money. This 12 hour course is formatted to teach fundamental concepts and skills in the use of our laser etching and cutting machines and how to create stunning 2-D design in CorelDraw that will help you on your way to making your own multifaceted projects.
Starting with the basics, students will learn how to operate the Epilog laser machines how to adjust their settings and troubleshoot ways to improve their outcomes, and then dive into how to create their own 2-D designs using CorelDraw.
Students who complete this course are signed off to use the laser etchers whenever they like as members. This course meets once a week for 4 weeks.
Attire: Pants, closed toe shoes, shirt that covers shoulders
Age: Individual participants in this class need to be 18 years of age or above. Ages 14 to 17 with parent or guardian.

Anodized aluminum water bottles will be provided. If you would like to bring a design to etch onto your water bottle, please have a black and white .jpg, .gif, .ai, or .cdr file of at least 300 dpi.
LAS101 Laser Cutting and Etching Techniques
You will learn how to use the class leading Epilog industrial CO2 laser cutter to cut, etch and engrave designs in a variety of materials up to 24″ x 18″ by 3/8″ thick, including plastics, foams, woods, paper and cardboard, fabric, leather and even food! Cylindrical objects can be easily lasered using the rotary attachment. Graphics types will be covered including vector graphics vs raster graphics and how to create, download, and edit designs in Coreldraw.

Prerequisites: None, but we do recommend taking DSN103 CorelDraw Basics.

LAS102 Cutting and Etching Techniques - Advanced
Take your laser cutting to the next level as you etch images into anodized sheet metal and/ or acrylic, learn how to create tabbed boxes, and design complex structures made with all flat patterns. Materials suitable for engraving along with their best uses will be discussed. Graphics types will be covered including vector graphics vs raster graphics and how to create, download, and edit designs in Coreldraw.
