Get hands-on experience with our sturdy and strong, but easy to use, industrial sewing machines. Each student will make a small pocket bag. This machine can sew through most regular weight fabric, but not heavy duty materials like leather or layers of canvas. Students of this class have gone on to create messenger bags, rocket parachutes, leather accessories, clothing, sails, costumes and battery packs with zippers. Once you take and successfully pass this class, you can use this equipment for your projects whenever you work at Urban Workshop as a member!

In this class you will learn the basics of upholstery through the design and construction of your own ottoman. This project will serve as the basis of understanding concepts and applications of upholstery that you will be able to apply to a variety of projects on your own. Students will learn how to lay out material, the differences between different types of foam, how to use upholstery staple guns, how to sew piping, and how to attach legs. Anyone interested in learning the fundamental skills and concepts of upholstery, whether they would like to repair their own furniture at home, explore a new craft, or interested in learning how to start an upholstery business – this class is for them!
