Get started with Adobe Photoshop, the commercial arts industry standard program for photo retouching and digital illustration. Gain a basic understanding of how to alter photographic images using a combination of “raster” and “vector” tools, including layers, layer masking, cloning brushes, color and tonal adjustments, the pen tool and type for use online and in print.

Vector drawing is the starting point for many types of CNC fabrication. Adobe Illustrator is an extremely powerful 2D vector graphics drawing program. By following the pathways offered in this class, you can export your files to many of the CNC machines in the Urban Workshop. In this class, you will learn the basics of the interface and navigation, effective drawing techniques, converting bitmaps to vectors in one step, creating clean and optimized vectors, and the most efficient techniques to prepare your files for CNC operations. You will also learn how some of the CNC machines at Urban Workshop (laser, router, vinyl cutter) will work with your file to create your projects.
