This hands-on test preparation course is designed for welders seeking certification to AWS D1.3 – Structural Welding Code: Sheet Steel, which covers welding of materials 3/16″ thick and thinner. Students will gain the skills and knowledge needed to prepare for and pass the D1.3 performance qualification test. Participants will learn how to prepare test coupons, set machine parameters for thin-gauge welding, and produce code-compliant fillet welds on prequalified joints in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using GMAW processes.

This is what we call our “New Welder Program.” This is a beginner friendly hands-on course designed to prepare participants for AWS D9.1 certification in sheet metal welding (3/16 inch and thinner), commonly used in HVAC, cabinetry, and architectural applications. The training focuses on GMAW (short circuit MIG) welding, joint configurations, welder setup, and code-compliant techniques. Students also receive a full set of Miller Welding PPE.
Application: MIG is the most commonly used type of welding in general fabrication and manufacturing. Sheet metal welder, HVAC duct fabricator., Architectural sheet metal worker, custom fabrication welder. Light gauge fabricator.
